Jamf specializes in Apple onboarding for organizations. Jamf Nation is a technical forum similar to StackOverflow.com used by IT professionals for technical support. I supported as an Information architect and visual designer.
ProblemJamf Nation needed to raise user engagement, syphon users over to their commerce site as well as revamp the architecture that had become inefficient over time.
Modern social media enhancements such as the like feature, and a continuous content feed were used to encourage user engagement. Exposing hidden items in the global navigation and introducing a side bar navigation to increase overall visibility and enable quicker access to the commerce portal and users personal profile.
Jamf wanted to increase interactions between its users. I introduced a design to emulate social media platforms. Comment threads were easier to access and content would continuously load to encourage longer active times.
During testing our users were asking for features they already had access to such as tracking posts. Users admitted to using a google search to locate threads of interest. These features were buried under a menu using a list name called "Profile". I standardized the experience allowing access to a users profile through a profile thumbnail and username. Exposing the profile link at a higher level immediately increased discoverability and delighted users that stumbled upon their "new" profile screen.
I worked closely with a Usability Researcher throughout the design phase to periodically test my explorations. I received overwhelmingly positive feedback from the product owner as well as Jamf users. One user even described the new layout as "exactly what I've always wanted". Users tested had little to no difficulties navigating the new architecture and the bounce rate was reduced.
